Edward Macierowski, Professor

Ph.D., Centre for Medieval Studies, University of Toronto. Dr. Macierowski has special competence in ancient, medieval, and Islamic philosophy and metaphysics. His second book is Thomas Aquinas's Earliest Treatment of the Divine Essence (ISBN 1-883058-22-8). Dr. Macierowski is also competent in several foreign languages (including classical Arabic) and teaches Greek and Latin in the Modern and Classical Languages Department. James Madden, Assistant Professor

Ph.D., Purdue University. Dr. Madden specializes in modern philosophy, natural theology, and ethics. He has published papers on Hume, Leibniz, Malebranche, Aristotle, St. Thomas Aquinas, and intelligent design. Dr. Madden was named Benedictine College's Distinguished Educator of the Year for 2006. Lloyd Newton, Associate Professor

Ph.D., University of Dallas. Dr. Newton has research interests in medieval logic and natural philosophy. He is working on publishing his translation of Duns Scotus' Questions on the Categories of Aristotle as well as editing an anthology on medieval Category Commentaries to be published by Brill Press. Jean Rioux, Professor and Chair

Ph.D., University of St. Thomas. Dr. Rioux has special interests in mathematics, natural philosophy and natural theology. His publications include articles in The Thomist and The Aquinas Review, as well as anthologies in natural philosophy, ethics, and natural theology. He regularly co-teaches interdisciplinary Great Books courses on faith and reason. Dr. Rioux was named Benedictine College's Distinguished Educator of the Year for 2003. Donald Scholz, Professor Emeritus

Andy Swafford, Visiting Instructor

S.T.L., S.T.D. (candidate), University of St. Mary of the Lake. In addition to being competent in Greek, Hebrew, and Latin, Mr. Swafford has research interests in the relation between faith and reason, in particular, the association of theology with the methodology of the empirical sciences, and the subsequent need for a return to the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas and Aristotle.
